One restaurant, three layouts

The walls, kitchen, restroom and storage are the same in all three; only the dining room changes. Each link opens that layout in the editor.

Area per zone

A restaurant plan is more than tables. The editor measures every room inside the walls, so you see what the kitchen and the back of house take from the space.

Space around tables and in the kitchen

Each piece in the library carries the free space it needs and where that number comes from. Where no guideline exists, we say it is our own rule of thumb.

Plan a restaurant floor plan

  1. Draw the space with its doors and windows, and mark what cannot move: the kitchen hood, drains and the entrance.
  2. Give the back of house its rooms first: kitchen, storage, restroom.
  3. Keep a clear path from the kitchen door to every table, and from the entrance to the restroom.
  4. Fill the dining room with the table mix you serve: tables for two and four move together, rounds for groups.
  5. Check the seat count against your local rules for occupancy and exits before you buy furniture.

How it works in the editor

  1. The button above opens the editor with this restaurant. For your own space, draw the walls or type the rooms with their sizes.
  2. Press F or choose Furniture and search for restaurant table, cafe table, booth, bar counter or bar stool. Click in the dining room to place it.
  3. Move tables with the mouse or the arrow keys; Duplicate copies one, Rotate 90° turns it.
  4. Each room shows its area on the plan: dining room, kitchen, restroom and storage, inside the walls.
  5. Export a PDF to scale or a DXF for your architect or contractor, or look at the room in 3D.

About restaurant floor plans. Can’t find your answer? Send us a message.

How do I make a restaurant floor plan?

Draw the space with its walls, doors and windows, give the kitchen, storage and restrooms their rooms, then place the tables in the dining room. In Squaremetry each room shows its area as you draw, and the tables come from the library at their real size.

How many seats fit in a restaurant?

It depends on the tables you choose and the paths you keep clear. In our example dining room of 754.1 sq ft, round tables for four give 36 seats (21 sq ft per seat) and tables for six and four give 48 (16 sq ft per seat). Your local rules for occupancy and exits set the limit.

Is there a free restaurant floor plan maker?

Yes. In Squaremetry, drawing, placing tables and looking in 3D are free in the browser, without an account. A PDF to scale or a DXF costs $5 per home, or comes with Pro from $24 a month.

Is there a restaurant floor plan template?

The three layouts on this page open in the editor as a starting point: the same room with round tables for four, a bar with tables, or tables for six and four. Move, add or remove tables to fit your space.

Can I add dimensions to a restaurant floor plan?

Yes. The plan shows the outside dimensions of every side by default, and you can show inside sizes per room or measure any distance and keep it as a dimension line.

Can I give the plan to my architect or contractor?

Export a PDF to scale with a title block, or a DXF with walls, openings, rooms, text and dimensions on their own layers, and furniture on its own layer too.
