Centimeters to inches: in short

Divide the centimeters by 2.54 to get inches. 10 cm is 3.94 in, about 3⅞″ on a tape measure, and 1 meter is 39.37 in.

The formula

123456789101112 51015202530 inches (⅛″ marks) cm · 12″ = 30.48 cm

Inches = centimeters ÷ 2.54. The number is exact: an inch is 2.54 cm by definition. The way back is centimeters = inches × 2.54.

A US tape measure shows inches in eighths. The converter gives both the decimal inches and the nearest eighth, so you can mark it on a board.
