What counts

What counts in the square footage

Everything in a bungalow is on one floor, so the total is simply that floor measured outside the walls. The bay in front of the living room in the three bedroom plan is part of the room and counts toward its 1,411 sq ft.

Each room is measured inside its walls. The finished area of a house is measured to the outside of the exterior walls (ANSI Z765), so it is larger than the rooms added up.

Questions

Bungalow house plans: questions

About these bungalow plans. Can’t find your answer? Send us a message.

What makes a house a bungalow?

One story, or one and a half with rooms under the roof, a compact footprint, a low roof with wide eaves and an entry straight into the living room. Most have a front porch or a bay.

What are popular bungalow layouts?

Two are common: the long plan with public rooms down one side and bedrooms down the other, and the square plan with the living room in front and bedrooms around a short hall.

What are some good plans for a 1200 square foot bungalow house?

At that size, aim for two bedrooms and one bath, or three small bedrooms with a second bath. Our 1200 sq ft page has a plan at exactly that size to start from.

Can I change these plans?

Yes. Click Open in the editor under a plan and it opens as your own plan in the Squaremetry editor, with the same numbers as on this page. Move a wall and every area and the total update.

Is this a construction drawing?

No. This is an example floor plan, not a construction drawing. The Squaremetry team drew it for this page; it has no address. For a permit you need drawings from a qualified designer.
