Craftsman bungalow plans

A Craftsman bungalow is the classic 1910s and 1920s American bungalow: one floor or a little more, a porch on heavy tapered columns, a wide low roof and a living room with a fireplace. Our two plans have 1,095 to 1,506 sq ft.

What counts

What counts in the square footage

In the dormer plan the space under the front slope is storage behind short walls: 260 sq ft that is not finished and stays out. The back dormer gives the two bedrooms full height, so they count in full.

Each room is measured inside its walls. The finished area of a house is measured to the outside of the exterior walls (ANSI Z765), so it is larger than the rooms added up.

Questions

Craftsman bungalow plans: questions

About these craftsman bungalow plans. Can’t find your answer? Send us a message.

What is the difference between a Craftsman and a bungalow?

Craftsman is a style; bungalow is a house type. Most Craftsman homes from the 1920s were bungalows, but a bungalow can be any style and a Craftsman can have two full floors.

What did a 1920s Craftsman bungalow look like inside?

A living room across the front with a brick fireplace, a dining room with a built in buffet, a small kitchen at the back, and two bedrooms with a shared bath.

Can I change these plans?

Yes. Click Open in the editor under a plan and it opens as your own plan in the Squaremetry editor, with the same numbers as on this page. Move a wall and every area and the total update.

Is this a construction drawing?

No. This is an example floor plan, not a construction drawing. The Squaremetry team drew it for this page; it has no address. For a permit you need drawings from a qualified designer.
