Ranch house plans

A ranch house is a one-story home, usually long and low, often with an attached garage. The garage isn’t finished living space, so it doesn’t count toward the square footage; our four plans have 1,200 to 2,105 sq ft.

What counts

What counts in the square footage

The L-shaped plan has 2,105 sq ft of finished area and a 540 sq ft garage in the corner. ANSI Z765 lists the garage apart; the wall between them is measured to the middle.

Each room is measured inside its walls. The finished area of a house is measured to the outside of the exterior walls (ANSI Z765), so it is larger than the rooms added up.

Questions

Ranch house plans: questions

About these ranch house plans. Can’t find your answer? Send us a message.

What makes a home a ranch-style home?

One story, a long low shape, a wide roof with deep eaves, and often an attached garage. The rooms are all on one level.

What is a ranch house with a basement called?

Usually just a ranch with a basement; when the lower level opens to the yard it is a walkout ranch. See our house plans with a basement.

Can I change these plans?

Yes. Click Open in the editor under a plan and it opens as your own plan in the Squaremetry editor, with the same numbers as on this page. Move a wall and every area and the total update.

Is this a construction drawing?

No. This is an example floor plan, not a construction drawing. The Squaremetry team drew it for this page; it has no address. For a permit you need drawings from a qualified designer.
