Interior elevations

An interior elevation is a drawing of one wall seen straight on, with doors, windows, cabinets, tile and outlets at their real height. Squaremetry draws one for every wall of every room, from the same floor plan.

  • Every wall of every room
  • Heights and a chain of sizes
  • PDF, SVG and DXF

Drawing is free. A clean export costs $5 per home after the beta, or Pro from $19 a month.

Interior elevation of a bathroom wall to scale, drawn by the editor: a tub, a window and tile up to 6 feet, with dimensions.

What is an interior elevation?

A drawing of one wall from inside the room, as if you stand in front of it: everything on and against that wall at its real height, with the sizes under and beside it. Kitchen fitters, tilers and electricians work from it.

Wall A of a 12 × 9 ft kitchen, drawn by the editor: cabinets, a tiled backsplash, outlets and a switch with their heights.

What the editor draws on each wall

  • The wall up to the ceiling, with doors and windows at their real sill and head height.
  • Cabinets and furniture within 30 cm (12″) of the wall, at their height: a wall cabinet hangs at its height.
  • Outlets, switches, taps and radiators at their mounting height, with the height next to them.
  • Tile in bands up to a height, each band with its own tile size.
  • A chain of sizes under the wall, the length, and the heights on the sides; a key plan with the letter of each wall.

Elevation, section or exterior elevation?

An interior elevation looks at one wall from inside. A section cuts through the whole house and shows floors, ceilings and the roof. An exterior elevation shows the outside of the house, one side at a time. The editor draws all three from the same model.

What it does not draw yet

A kitchen run placed with Interior shows as one block in the wall elevation for now; wall cabinets placed one by one, as in the drawing above, show at their height. A curved wall is left out, and a pattern on wall tile is drawn as a straight grid.

How it works in the editor

  1. Draw the room, or open the editor with a 12 × 9 ft kitchen ready. Add cabinets and fixtures from the library, and outlets and switches in Systems.
  2. Choose the room, open More in its card and click Wall elevations. Or click Elevations in the top bar and choose Room walls.
  3. All walls shows every wall with its letter and the Key plan; click a letter to see one wall large. Wall A is the top wall of the room, then clockwise.
  4. Download SVG saves what you see. In Export, tick Room walls: one page per room in the PDF, or a DXF with its own layers for walls, tile, openings, furniture and symbols.

What is an interior elevation?

A drawing of one wall seen straight on from inside the room, with doors, windows, cabinets, tile and outlets at their real height and with sizes.

What is the difference between a section and an elevation in interior design?

An elevation shows one wall from in front. A section cuts through the room or the house and shows what you would see in the cut: floors, ceilings and walls in depth.

What are the two basic types of elevations?

Exterior elevations show the outside of a building, one side at a time. Interior elevations show the walls inside, one at a time. Squaremetry draws both from the same plan.

Can I export interior elevations?

Yes: as SVG from the wall view, and in Export as a PDF with one page per room or as a DXF with its own layers.
