See every area and why it counts

Guide: See every area and why it counts · · 2 min read

The area counts while you draw. The teal block in the Plan panel shows the main number; Area shows each room and the reason a room counts or not.

The sample house with the Plan panel: the teal block with the whole home and this floor, the overview in colour and the rows.

See every area and why it counts: step by step

  1. 1. Close a room

Areas appear as soon as a room is closed. Until then the panel says Draw walls or a room. Click Area in the Plan panel for the list of rooms. When part of a room does not count, such as the strip under 1.50 m below a sloped ceiling, its row shows both: 17.4 m² floor, 11.96 m² counts. So the list adds up to Rooms added up. The label on the drawing says the same under the room name, as soon as it fits at your zoom.

  2. 2. Open a room

Click a room in the list to see its Perimeter and a short reason why it counts. The overview in colour in the Plan panel opens a room when you click it.

  3. 3. See what stays apart

A garage goes under Apart, because it does not count in the main number; with ANSI Z765 the wall between the home and the garage counts with the home. A garage from an imported file stays apart too. Check Finished under What counts in the room card for a finished garage and it counts. A conservatory or closed veranda has its own room type: without Heatable in its room card it counts for half under the WoFlV, as other indoor space under the Dutch rules and not in the GLA; with Heatable it counts in full. For it only Heatable decides, so Finished is not in its room card. The loi Carrez counts it, the loi Boutin does not.

  4. 4. Work in meters

In meters the main number is Usable living area (GO). Under Plan › Area and on the Measurement sheet, Compare: 3 other ways to measure opens the other numbers, among them Measuring instruction (all interior walls), with a line on what they are for.

  5. 5. Each number says what it covers

In the Plan panel, a small teal block shows the Whole home, and This floor next to it when the home has more floors; the (i) says what each number counts. Under Area, the rooms are those of the floor you see, with its name above the list. The main number is the whole home; with more floors it says Whole home, all floors, and This floor shows the number of the floor you see. On a phone the sheet shows the floor under its name and the whole home below it. What counts, the Check panel and a shared link say Whole home too.
